Ethics post #2 -Cyberbullying/Cyberstalking

Cyberbullying and cyberstalking are two of biggest problems why people today are driven to either commit suicide or move far away from where they are now. They both cause people to loose self confidence in themselves from being put down and bullied, which makes that individual very depressed. Cyberstalking is shown through threatening or harassing emails, verbal abuse, identity theft, and many more different ways. Cyberbullying is when a child is threatened, harassed, or humiliated by another child or person using the internet or any electronic form to make them feel bad about themselves at any given point of time. Both of these problems don't just happen once and then its done, they happen until the person being bullied or harassed is driven to their own death.
Cyberstalkers can be pedophiles, criminals, children, or adults and most of the time are unknown. They can steal your identity, break in to your house if they know where you live, and steal your personal belongings without you even knowing they are gone. In the article "Cyberstalking" it is said that the stalker has to physically harm or try to harm you before police can get involved in  the case, and honestly  I don't agree with that.  What if police wait to long, and by the time they do get involved the person being harmed is already physically and mentally torn apart? Then it will be the police's fault for why that individual is in the state they are in during that time period. To stop cyberstalking, kids and adults need to stop giving personal information such as their real name, phone number, school or work information to others or via Internet to keep them out of trouble. If someone is caught cyberstalking and harming someone they should face jail time or community service work for a long time to serve as their punishment for what they did.
Cyberbulling has caused children to commit suicide after being involved with any type of electronic or face to face bullying, and has involved kids, children, teenagers, and even adults in todays everyday life. It can be shown through serious threats and insults that causes people to loose control of themselves and do things they know is wrong. If someone is caught cyberbulling in school, or even outside of school they should be expelled and transferred to another school, or should be taken up with the police. It is unexceptable to harm others, even if you're making a joke about it, because not everyone takes jokes the same way you do and may take it the wrong way.
In conclusion, I think the best method to prevent cyber harassment from happening in the first place is to not do it at all. When others are hurt, tormented, embarrassed or threatened, it's not acceptable in any way, shape, or form. Parents need to be more involved when a child or teenager is at risk or in danger online. They need to be supportive, and let the child's school know what is going on also. People need to stop cyberbulling and cyberstalking others because honestly it's not worth getting in major trouble, getting put in jail, and physically or mentally abusing innocent human beings for no reason. Also if you want to prevent all of this, keep your personal information to yourself, and be your own person so no one would even think about messing with you

  3. I also agree that we should treat others the way we wish to be treated. Also, I think a way to combat cyberbullying and cyberstalking is to bring awareness to the issue. parents should discuss the dangers of the internet with their children and teachers should warn students about the hazards as well.
